SEMIP Innovation Showcase 2012

The South East Melbourne Innovation Precinct (SEMIP) will present its Innovation Showcase 2012 program on 30 March with megashocks and megatrends, bionic vision and green technology all looking to be hot topics.

The event is targeted at small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and will feature renowned business publisher Amanda Gome, whose company produces SmartCompany.com.au.

Dr Stefan Hajkowicz from CSIRO will provide the keynote address, presenting five megatrends and eight megashocks (global risks) that will redefine how people around the world will live.

By attending the SEMIP Innovation Showcase 2012, businesses can gain an invaluable competitive advantage. Participants can network with innovative SMEs, leaders of major research facilities, and government representatives.

A highlight of the event will be a session with Professor Arthur Lowery, leader of the Monash Bionic Vision Group, discussing how Monash University selected its industry partners and their contributions to the project.

Jürgen Schneider from Siemens Australia will present on what multinational corporations look for in an SME partner.

The Showcase will enable local business people to discuss important issues with leaders in their fields through intimate break-out sessions covering various technologies and their application for manufacturing; topics include the convergence of bio and nanotechnology, the application of digital technologies in new product development, and business opportunities in the fast growing world of cleantech (clean technology).

The South East Melbourne Innovation Precinct initiative is a unique partnership involving the CSIRO, Monash University, Australian Synchrotron, Small Technologies Cluster, and the city councils of Greater Dandenong, Kingston, Knox and Monash.

The Teapot Tips

Edmund James Wrigh Albury bequethed his collection of one hundred and fifty teapots to Bayside Council in 1983.
On display is a selection of Albury's teapot collection as well as a wonderful array of ceramics, works on paper and paintings by Holmesglen students that have resulted from the student's study of the collection. In responding to the collection, students from Holmesglen have created a series of art works that explore the history, mythology and future of the humble teapot.

Events in the Bayside area in August 2011

The next Bayside Farmer's Market will be held on Saturday, 20 August from 8am to 1pm at Trey Bit Reserve [Jetty Road, Sandringham].

Usually held every 3rd Saturday of every month, the farmer's market is packed with over 60 stalls selling a great variety of fresh produce from gourmet condiments to free range eggs and freshly baked bread. It's a great way to start your weekend and visit the local area. Entry to the market is by gold coin donation.

If fresh produce is not your thing and you're more after fresh air...why not challenge yourself with a 5km or 10km walk/run marathon or a dip & dash 500m open water swim.

This event, the 2011 Villa & Hut Sandy Point Half will take place on Sunday, 21 August from 7am at the Green Point in Brighton.
Spectacular views of Port Phillip Bay is not the only incentive for participants in that race as there will be a $500 cash prize for the first male and female across the finishing line. For more information, please click here
